Mobile Origin CL5 brings 32 cleaning tools together in a single case measuring 55 x 55 x 137 mm. A press of the button on the top pushes out the tray with tools for a phone, a keyboard, earphones, the display and the camera lens. The keyboard brush attaches magnetically to the bottom, so the kit always stays together.

Pop-up tray and 32 tools together

The case does not open with a screw cap or a flip lid. The button on the top pushes the inner tray out and the tools are visible all at once, each in its own position. You reach straight for the one you need, instead of tipping the kit out onto the desk. Arranging them into slots has a second purpose: after use you can see at once which place has stayed empty, so no tool is left forgotten outside the case. The body of the case is made of ABS plastic in a white finish.

Magnetic keyboard brush

The keyboard brush is the largest tool in the kit and does not fit into the inner tray. It therefore attaches magnetically to the bottom of the case and is carried with it as one piece. The head is operated with a slider. The extended bristles sweep crumbs and dust off the surface of a keyboard and off the desk around it.

Deep keyboard cleaning

Crumbs, dust and hair collect between the keys, and a brush from the outside is not enough for them. That is why the kit contains a plastic keycap puller, with which you take a keycap off without prying with a screwdriver, and a fork puller for keys with a different type of mounting. You then clean the exposed mechanism with the stiff-bristled brush, and pick out whatever stays wedged in with the tweezers. For the gaps between the keyboard and the frame of a laptop there is a gap knife and a scraper for the dust along the edges.

Earphones and card slots

An earphone charging case is among the dirtiest things people carry in a pocket: dust mixed with earwax settles in both recesses and the dirt clings around the contacts. The kit has three tools for that. The flat brush cleans the bottom of the recesses, the pointed brush gets into the corners the flat one cannot reach, and the sponge head wipes the rest away instead of merely pushing it aside.

The same case holds three card slots, each shaped for a different format: an SD card, a SIM card and a game card. The SIM pin has its own position right next to them, so when you swap a card while travelling you are not looking for a paper clip.

Cleaning pen tip and earphone brush

The earphones themselves need a different approach than their charging case. The cleaning pen tip is thin and stiff, so it travels through the gap around a silicone ear tip and along the edge where dirt gets caught. The earphone brush has short dense bristles and is aimed at the microphone grille and the noise-cancelling opening. A clogged grille muffles the sound, so cleaning this spot makes a difference to what you hear.

Camera lens and extension rod

Neither a camera lens nor the camera module in a phone is wiped with a sleeve: dust on the glass behaves like an abrasive under pressure and leaves fine scratches. The kit contains a cleaning stick and a lens attachment, both of which fit onto the extension rod. The longer grip keeps your hand further from the glass and lets you guide the tool evenly and without pressure. The rod is compatible with the other attachments in the kit as well, so it helps anywhere that reach matters more than precision.

Charging port and harder-to-reach places

A charging port clogs up with fibres from a pocket and with dust that packs into a layer at the bottom. The phone then only charges with the connector in a certain position, or stops charging altogether. The small bent brush has its bristles set at an angle, so it travels the full length of the port without turning the whole tool. The hook attachment gets out the dirt that clings to the walls. The kit has separate versions for an iPhone port and for USB-C, plus attachments for cleaning the connectors of the cable itself. The soft sponge head then wipes away what is left where bristles are of no use.

Dimensions and weight

Closed up, the case stands on a square base of 55 x 55 mm and measures 137 mm in height. The weight of 226 g applies to the complete kit including all the tools and the keyboard brush. The brush attached underneath measures 40 x 48 x 15 mm and the extended bristles add another 20 mm. The base is flat, so the case stays standing on a desk next to a monitor, and upright it fits into the side pocket of a backpack.
