The CB18 is designed for data transfer at speeds up to 80 Gbps, which corresponds to the USB4 data class. At this speed, you can move a large file, for example a multi-gigabyte video or a phone backup, in a matter of seconds instead of minutes. You'll mainly take advantage of this speed when connecting a laptop to an external SSD, a docking station, or a second computer. If you're getting the cable mainly for charging, data transfer is an extra feature you don't need to worry about.

The cable's outer braid is made of high-density 48-strand nylon, which resists abrasion and tearing better than thinner 24-strand versions. The connectors are protected by an aluminum-alloy shell that is mechanically strong and dissipates heat away from the electronics inside. Where the cable enters the connector there is an extended stress relief (Extended SR), which cushions repeated bending and reduces cracking of the jacket at the most stressed point. The connectors' contact surfaces have an anti-corrosion treatment that maintains reliable contact over a longer period of use.

The CB18 delivers up to 240 W under the USB Power Delivery 3.1 EPR standard, which operates at voltages up to 48 V at a current of 5 A. This is enough for the full charging power of high-performance laptops, not just phones and tablets. So that a 240 W charger can release full power, the cable contains an E-mark chip that signals to the charger and device that the cable can handle 5 A of current; without it, the charger would limit its output. The cable is compatible with USB PD 3.1 EPR chargers and backward compatible with older USB Power Delivery chargers.
