Battery Extender Case for AirTag A8, Black

The case is made of three threaded parts: a top cap, a body with contact springs and a bottom cap with room for the battery. The AirTag sits in the middle of the assembly, with the CR2477 cell below it. Four features follow from that layout. The IP68 rating relies on the silicone seals between the parts, and the assembly withstands submersion to 1 m of water for 60 minutes. Both caps open by twisting, so a battery swap takes a few seconds and needs no screwdriver. The contact springs match the battery contact of the 1st and 2nd generation AirTag, so the tracker needs no modification. The 1,000 mAh CR2477 battery is included and lasts 5 to 8 years, whereas the original CR2032 in an AirTag lasts about a year.

The entire difference in battery life comes down to cell capacity. The standard CR2032 in an AirTag holds roughly 220 mAh; the CR2477 in the A8 case holds 1,000 mAh. Button cell designations describe their dimensions: a CR2032 measures 20 mm across and 3.2 mm tall, a CR2477 about 24.5 mm and 7.7 mm.

A cell that size will not fit inside the AirTag body, which is why the A8 is not an adapter but a replacement body that powers the tracker through its own contact springs. The 1,000 mAh figure is the real capacity, not an inflated one, and the stated battery life range is derived from it.

The A8 case works with the 1st generation AirTag from 2021 as well as the 2nd generation AirTag from 2026. Both models share the same battery contact dimensions, so the contact springs inside the case meet either one without shims or any modification to the tracker. The AirTag goes in without its original CR2032; the CR2477 in the lower section takes over.

The assembly is noticeably larger than a bare AirTag, though: 48 x 40 x 19 mm and 15 g without the tracker and battery. It fits on keys, a backpack, a larger dog's collar or a car's glovebox — but not in a slim wallet or under a phone case.

Button cells are tightly regulated in both the EU and the US because of the risk of a child swallowing one, and the case holding the cell is part of that protection. The A8 passed testing under ANSI/UL 4200A-2023 and 16 CFR Part 1263, which verify that the battery compartment will not open on its own after a drop, impact, crush, torque or pull. The result is a PASS in every clause assessed.

The CR2477 battery is classified for air transport in Class 9, PI 968 IB, and for sea freight under SP 188 without restriction. A closed cap keeps the cell in place during normal handling, but the case and a loose battery still belong out of reach of children.
