Glossy glass reflects the sky, the sun and your surroundings, and the reflection on the display sits on top of whatever the watch is showing at that moment. The anti-reflective coating suppresses the reflected light, so the time, your heart rate and your route stay readable even in direct sunlight, without turning up the brightness. The difference is most noticeable outdoors on a run, on the bike or in the mountains, when you glance at your wrist only briefly and often at an angle.

Light transmittance is at least 92%, so the glass lets through the vast majority of the light from the display. The surface also has an oleophobic coating with a contact angle of 115°. 9H hardness is the highest grade on the pencil hardness scale. In the test, pencil leads of increasing hardness are drawn across the surface, and grade 9H means that not even the hardest one scratches it. The glass therefore resists the scratches and abrasion that occur during everyday wear, for example from keys when you reach into your pocket or from the metal zipper of a jacket or backpack. That makes it especially suitable for anyone who wears their watch all the time and keeps it on even at work or during sports.

Apple Watch Ultra 1, 2, 3 and 4 share the same 49 mm case size, which is why one and the same glass fits all of them. So when you choose, it makes no difference which of these generations you wear. The shape of both the glass and the frame follows the front of the Ultra watch.
